Three extraordinary people, Peter Caddy, Eileen Caddy, and Dorothy Maclean, joined together in the early 1960's to follow the voice of God Within and gave themselves unconditionally to the process of creating a New Age Center called the Findhorn Foundation in Forres, Scotland. The Findhorn Foundation is a place of hope and example for thousands of people throughout the world. It is a power of positive transformation that upholds the visions of the future. All who visit and live at the Findhorn Foundation learn to live in accordance with higher wisdom, love and faith and do so with imagination and skill. The three founders became living archetypes of the qualities of these traits: Peter as faith in action; Eileen as love in action; and Dorothy, as wisdom in action. On the sandy beaches of the Moray Firth, Scotland they dedicated their every thought to the attunement of nature and the over lighting forces that would direct them. The amazing power of synchronicity, miracle, and passion guided these three people to become examples of inspiration and faith to the world around them. Through their loving devotion to the invisible forces of nature they offered a tremendous gift to humanity by showing us the way to creative visualization and manifestation where the exoteric and esoteric worlds unite. They also invited the world around them to explore the angelic realms. I was not an exception.
In 1976, while living on Oahu, I decided to take a three month journey to explore the Hawaiian Islands. While sitting near an idyllic nature scene surrounded by ocean, waterfalls, flowers and ferns, I had a miraculous experience that transformed the destiny of my life. For a number of minutes I was invited into the luminous magic of nature where all physical form was turned into electrical patterns of design and energy. This was absolutely not a drug induced experience for I have never taken drugs in my life. Life as I knew it ceased to exist during that magical encounter and when I returned to my everyday consciousness I was left with an awesome feeling that I had gone "Home".
Hours later I met a woman on the beach who was reading "The Magic of Findhorn", by Paul Hawkin. I was so drawn to the book that she gave it to me and I read it in one sitting. Upon returning to my home on the island of Oahu, I experienced my first encounter with the " Law Of Cosmic Order", or synchronicity, for the person who had sublet my room had been a community member of the Findhorn Foundation for four years. I did not know him or of his contact with Findhorn until the day I returned home. Also, the day I returned he received a personal letter from Peter Caddy asking him if he would consider returning to the community to help establish the kitchen in the newly purchased Cluny Hill Hotel. In his letter he asked if he knew of a good cook who might like to come along because the kitchen crew was expanding. I was a vegetarian cook in a lovely restaurant and so my new friend asked me if I would like to go to Findhorn, via free air fare, compliments of The Findhorn Community. Within two weeks I was on my way to Scotland, a place that would become a spiritual home forever. I spent three and a half years learning and living the love and truth expressed at the Foundation. From this experience I learned in my own small way that miracles can guide our lives if we are willing to follow the divine intervention that can change us forever. I like to call it "Cosmic Choreography". Not only did I learn about the laws of manifestation while I was at Findhorn, I also learned through the living example of Peter and Eileen Caddy how to become a pioneer of the New Age. I keep doing by best.
At Findhorn one learns that the art of listening--a skill that Dorothy and Eileen mastered with absolute clarity--is an important asset if one is to truly live a life aligned to the Higher Planes. Meditation, contemplation, and quieting the mind stills the restless voice within and attunes one to reverence and peace. Eileen Caddy wrote:
The Inner Voice
I was shown a great ball of light. Coming from
it were bright rays of light and going back into
it were dull rays. I wondered what was happening,
then I heard the words: Be at peace.
When you have been full cycle, you will
return to me, the source of all light, and
you will become one with Me as you were in the
beginning.
Recently I attended a week-end retreat with Dorothy Maclean, an elder now, who exhibits the wisdom and integrity of one who has walked the cutting edge with courage and devotion. She speaks in a matter of fact way about angelic contact and feels that the deva or plant spirit that she communed with was the higher soul of nature. She asks that we trust and know that the angelic soul world is eager to cooperate with humans on many levels, be it through gardening, healing, art or writing. She emphatically states that the over lighting energy that she contacted was an essence of pure love. Eileen calls this the "God Within".
There are many ways that we can connect and commune with the "God Within". Archetype, myth, and the Tarot are mirror images of humanity that can restore higher qualities of human evolution. The synchronicity of their appearance at any given moment can align us with a mini miracle; an awakening full of power and impact. The Tarot cards can lift the veil of illusion and help us to see our face in many guises in order that we may understand the multi-dimensional qualities of our True Self. Dorothy Maclean and Eileen Caddy are exceptional examples of two woman who have pierced through the veil of mortal limitations and are living the potential of archetypal evolution.
The High Priestess matches the energy of Dorothy and the Emperor and Empress are suitable images for Eileen and Peter, for during their marriage they brought love, (The Empress), and form, (The Emperor) together in balance. One could not have fulfilled their destiny without the other. It is note worthy to mention that Dorothy, Eileen and Peter activated the power of the trinity, for the number three is exalted as The World Card, number 21, where the Divine Grace of Anima Mundi or World Soul fulfills its destined mission to the very end. This mission cannot be complete without the cooperation of Natura, the soul of nature, and Her consorts who guide and assist humanity.
Findhorn's humble beginnings are rooted in nature. Peter relied on Dorothy to attune to the nature spirits or angelic forces to ask specific questions regarding the garden and compost. Detailed instructions were given, and Peter followed them as the golden rule. The sandy bank of the Moray Firth was becoming the talk of the town and the gardens were flourishing with abundant results, drawing attention from scientists, mystics, soil experts, and media. The cabbages were giant, the roses were blooming in the snow, and all of the plants had a radiance to them. It is lovely to note how this very famous and productive community birthed itself through miracle, faith, and reverence to Mother Earth. The garden Peter planted served as a metaphor for the community to live by, the message being: the foundation of any endeavor must first be rooted in Love. Indeed, the spirit of Findhorn lives within the hearts of many around the world.
In honor of Peter Caddy, who died the 17th of March 1994, I would like to end this article with a quote written by Sir George Trevelyan as a tribute to Peter after his death. It is a powerful statement that we can all contemplate as we trail blaze into the new millennium.
"We need those of heroic, almost mythological mettle who are not afraid of putting their hand into the fire and seizing the treasures to be found there. Peter Caddy was such a man."
