"The elders have asked that the morning after every full moon at about 10:00 am that we gather flowers and that we go outside and we look to the Sun, to the flowers, and to the heart of the Earth.....In doing so we bring more solar energy and flower wisdom to the earth, because the next age is the Age of Flowers. Flowers are our medicine for the next age.

Ven. Dhyani Ywahoo
Clan Chieftainess, Cherokee Nation

Plants, whether they are herbs, flowers, roots, or trees, have aided Humanity for thousands of years. The healing properties of nature come to us in various forms. The Power of Flowers offers the "medicine of the Earth" to the human population in a most unusual, yet, practical fashion. People are now ready to explore aspects of plant healing from a multidimensional perspective and in this project nature, archeytype, art, color, and language fuse as one, offering a personal "Secret Garden" to the reader.

The Power of Flower cards were inspired by my extensive work with flower essences, gardening, astrology, tarot, alchemy, and other mystical teachings, over the last twenty-five years. In addition, my time at The Findhorn Foundation (Findhorn is a global community in northern Scotland that was co-founded by Peter and Eileen Caddy in the 1960's. It serves as an educational and living center with an important focus on the spirtitual attunement to the nature kingdom.) from 1976 to 1980 was a precious opportunity to explore the soul connection between human beings and nature. Working in the Findhorn gardens, I knew that one day I would find a away to express my own creative understanding of Natura; the soul of nature.

Prior to Findhorn I lived on the Hawaiian Islands where I had my first contact with a true "nature spirit". One day as I sat on the shores of the Kauai coast admist green ferns and red hibiscus flowers, I saw a rush of violet light flitter across my vision, Within seconds I was aware of the transparent and profound patterns of the plants that were surrounding me, shimmering and glowing like stars and diamonds. I was enchanted by the glitter and infusion of color that pulled me in to this visual music. This was not to be the last time that I would have such an opportunity to engage with Nature's muse, however, it proved to be the opening of a new life for me. Within my own mind I heard the words softly spoken, "Welcome home."

I knew that I had been granted an invitation into a familiar world of fairies, flowers, and magic; a world I had obviously missed and longed for. Life can move at a quick pace when we are ready and willing to be uplifted and transformed, and this experience ushered in a multitude of changes that happened very fast , for within hours of that first encounter with nature, I met a woman on the shore who was reading a book about the Findhorn Foundation. I had never heard of the community, and was absolutly drawn to the book like a fish to water. She gave me her copy of the book and I read it from cover to cover. Sichroniscity is an auspicious angel that puts us in the right place at the right time and upon returning from my island back packing trip, I met a new housemate, Christopher, who had just returned from Findhorn having spent several years focalizing the community kitchen. With the help of his wisdom and connection, within two weeks I was on my way to Scotland via a special invitation from co-founder Peter Caddy. I was to be a part of a group that was to set up the newly purchased Cluny Hill Hotel for conferences, guest programs, and community life. I worked for several years in the Findhorn kitchens and gardens. At age twenty-three I was offered the opportunity to begin my true life work and I have been focused on that path ever since.

I began this project with the intention of incorporating masculine and feminine archetypes equally into the Power of Flower Cards, in the interest of promoting a balance of these energies in the world at large. And, initially, as I surrendered into the well of inspiration out of which the archetypes associated with these cards emerged, masculine and feminine images seemed to present themselves in more or less equal measure. However, as I surrendered further into the process, I began to see that underlying each of the masculine archetypes was an even deeper feminine one, quietly making her presence known to me. Along with this insight arose an awareness that these feminine archetypes were to be the primary source of inspiration for this project. The masculine archetypes that are included are powerful images that I hope can serve to heal the harmed aspect of the virtuous male in our culture. They live within the context of the feminine archetypes which serves as their all-encompassing matrix. Gradually, I came to see that this pattern of masculine archetypes arising out of more fundamental, feminine ones, was not only a profound expression of Nature, but was also, ultimately, in keeping with my original intention to promote the balancing of masculine and feminine energies on the planet.

Each of the thirty-two cards is illustrated with a particular flower which is connected to a human myth or archetype, both ancient and renewed, in order to emphasize how profoundly the spiritual and temporal worlds meet. The flowers become mirrors to the human soul, and in their purest meeting, aid in the process of "actualizing the divine" within each individual.

Flowers are the crowning glory of nature; their delicate yet vibrant essence awaken us to the angelic realm and serve as an elixir to our soul. They seek to heal all who suffer and remedy the maladies of the human spirit. As we journey through the garden gates of nature we are beckoned to enter the feminine mystery. Once there, her flowers teach us the language of Earth's wisdom, revealing themselves as holographic reflections of the various archetypes living within the human soul. Perhaps Paraselsus said it best in his discussion of alchemy:

"Nature is so careful and exact in Her creations that they cannot be used without great skill, for She does not produce anything that is perfect in itself. Humanity must bring things to perfection. The work of bringing things to perfection is called "Alchemy" and he or she is an alchemist that carries what nature grows for the use of humanity to its destined end."

Humanity is now ready to receive vital and progressive information regarding our deep kinship with Nature, and to understand the mystery of the plants and flowers that we meet each day. Flowers are sweet guardians of the Earth, and this project invites you to enter into the sacred wisdom of Natura; the soul of Nature.

The implication of honoring Nature is nothing short of revolutionary and enlightening. On this point, I am in agreement with those who argue that the survival of humankind, as well as the evolution of consciousness, itself, depends upon it. We find ourselves at a moment in time unlike any other, for as we approach the millennium, we are called to reconnect with the vital forces of planetary healing to an unprecedented degree. To accomplish a healing of such magnitude, we must apply all of the resources at our disposal to the daunting task of reinventing myths and archetypes in a manner which truly balance masculine and feminine principles without distorting either in turn.

We will not reclaim the wisdom of Nature through wishful thinking. Rather, we must engage with Her and the greater cosmology. As essentially feminine entities, holding the seeds of future manifestations, flowers represent a " rainbow bridge to enlightenment", and mirror microscopic mandalas of the Great Womb we call our universe. Therefore, turning to flowers for help with the challenges now confronting us makes good sense. With their color, scent, geometry, and form, flowers reflect the purity, joy, and beauty that is held within the human heart. We must learn to listen with our hearts to the teachings of the flowers in order to realign ourselves with them, thereby, raising our vibratory rate to that of Divine Creativity.

Flowers and the Power of Flower cards which invoke their presence, offer themselves up for the privilege of helping us surrender ever more deeply into our destiny as spiritual beings, that being to awaken to our inherently wise and compassionate natures. In our quest for liberation into the world, it seems fitting that we turn to the natural world for assistance and inspiration. In this great experiment we call evolution, perhaps the collaboration between human beings and flower beings will prove most fruitful of all. Patiently blossoming in our hearts, the flowers are eager to assist in the reemergence of Natura, the feminine soul of nature, which is leading the way to a new world order, one in which masculine and feminine energies are truly understood, honored, and balanced.

I am forever grateful for the gift of spirit that has graced my life. This work is the culmination of all that I have lived until now. I offer it as a prayer of hope to the Earth and all of Her inhabitants and for Her graceful survival into the New Millennium.
