It is common to read warnings on medicine bottle labels concerning the toxicity of their content. Supermarket aisles are stocked with boxes of toxic chemicals and detergents that have labels containing information about the dangers of their use. Warning the public of what's toxic and what's not is an important step in helping us keep our bodies safe. We have a long way to go before the system recognizes all toxic materials and substances, but we still have some decent guide lines from which to educate ourselves.

This is not the case in spiritual inquiries. People come and go indiscriminately from psychic to psychic often not knowing clearly the deeper intent or caliber of their work. We are open and vulnerable because of our changing culture. Our bodies are taxed, life is moving in many directions and this makes us more apt to give our power away to someone who seems to know our answers.

How can one identify the authenticity of the source of the spiritual healing and guidance that we seek. Is it harmful to open ourselves to loads of information that may or may not be true? We are challenged to open our hearts to the divine guidance of our True Self. The honor and privilege to commune with guides, helpers and intuition is not limited to a few special souls. The key toward attaining this gift is "commitment to consciousness". Commitment to truth, consciousness, and God.

We may all require guidance from one who has mastered the potential to assist others, but I warn, be discerning. It may be toxic to our system to be fed high doses of information that is potentially incorrect. Do not believe everything you hear. Question within whether or not the information is right for you. The adages "know thyself" and "Heal thyself" apply here.

As usual, I will introduce a Tarot image that may help us as a guide post along the way. The Temperance Card, ruled by the zodiacal sign Sagittarius, has a multiplicity of beautiful images ranging from an angel whose wings are held in by the force of moderation, to a cosmic dancer, swinging amongst the raging eruption of a volcano and tsunami wave. The image is often seen holding two cups, silver and gold, from which is poured the elixir of Eternal Balance. Symbolically, Temperance represents the empowerment of Alchemy; the process of blending the parts of self until fusion is achieved.

The planet Jupiter, ruled by Sagittarius, is a cosmic guidepost leading the way to the Temperance card. Jupiter is an expansive energy; a wide vortex of space and time. Therefore, it offers one the maximum potential of possibilities. One masters this energy through discipline, discernment, and practice. Temperance, to temper, means to mix or to merge. It pulls the opposites into a spiral motion, enabling one to dance between the poles of two extremes. Jupiter is the teacher of teachers, but only when the ecstatic force toward freedom is embraced or encased by the boundaries of effective time and space.

Hence, we understand the opportunity allotted to us through Jupiter and the Temperance Card. Our visions and spirituality are grounded by accepting the limitations of the world around us. Blending the temporal with the mystical we encounter the potential of our Cosmic Intelligence. We learn to temper cravings, longings, and desires so that we do not loose our power to those who we think possess the answers to our soul. We learn to wear time well, thus allowing the magic of Cronos to bring patience and form into our lives as proper time permits.

Pamela Eakins, Ph.D writes on Temperance:

Temperance
the right leading
of the New Living Substance
on the Path of True Will

The chance to overcome contradiction
through adherence of the Golden Mean
and creative cleansing

It is essential to our good health that we adhere to a strict code of discernment in order to live a clean and vital life. What's toxic and what's not is a deeper issue than meets the eye.

Card Description:

The Temperance card from The Lovers' Tarot. "Temperance is linked with Sagittarius, sign of higher mind and universal awareness, and just as this sign blends animal and humans attributes, Temperance is the essence of harmony."
