We are all visionaries. From the deepest depths of our soul, we carry the Wisdom of the ages and the ability to express it in a multiplicity of ways; song, dance, poetry, writing, speaking, art, color, and touch. In each of these modalities of human expression, Form is the key. An individual's Vision must manifest through focused intention and formulated ideas. The ability to organize thought and imagination into material creativity is the work of the Magician within, for it is the Wise One who integrates Creative Thinking with Creative Will. In the center of each individual lives the Heart of Divine Intelligence, the fire of inspiration that burns deep in the soul of Humanity. This passion is found when one is ready to become aligned with True Self or Individuation. A first step toward personal empowerment is to discover the revelation of I Am. I am unique. I am separate. I am a creator of Life. Individuation leads one toward inspired leadership and organization and the ability to change and grow through creative action.
On the Royal Road to Wisdom through the Tarot the Number One key is The Magician. In the magi energy we are in tune with the most creative and powerful aspects of Self. It is the part of us that directs the flow of creative fire into Form. The Magician stands near a table (symbolizing material manifestation) on which are placed a cup, (heart), a pentacle, (matter), a sword, (mind), and a Wand, (spirit). These tools are a representation of the four elements of water, earth, air, and fire.
In Pamela Eakin's book "Tarot of the Spirit" she states the Magi' Creed which she says is the essence of bringing creative force into form. That creed is: TO KNOW (intellect, Wind), TO WILL (spirit, Fire), TO DARE (emotion, Water), and TO KEEP SILENT (manifestation, Earth). She writes, "Maintaining silence is essential for the Magi. Those who have eyes to see will see. Those who have ears to hear will hear. The Magi need not attempt to explain the magic of creation to those who disbelieve". Organizing and acting out of this center creates grace and dignity and the ability to cope with insurmountable obstacles.
In the Gaia Matrix Oracle written by Rowena Pattee Kryder Ph.D. she has a card similar to the Magician called Priest-Seer. The key is ATTUNEMENT and the four symbols that surround the card are, Source: Balance (Centered equipoise amidst change). Agent: Plan (The center spreads to the four directions among circles of people). Process: Quest (Moving towards the Divine amidst life with a shield of power). Effect: Sacrifice (Making sacred by prioritizing).
We must be in flow with Universal cycles, and follow, as best as we can, Universal Law. When we tap into this well of cosmic knowledge, we are affirming the incarnation of Humanity. If we wish to change, we must alter our priorities and believe that nothing concrete stands in our way. We become the Magi, and from this place of inner confidence, we can live our life with Higher Purpose. The Magician personifies FOCUSED ACTION. Through this action the universe is transformed.
The Magician as portrayed in the Mary Greer deck shows a hooded Magi standing at a round table surrounded by lilies and roses. The flowers signify the communion of heart and mind.
In the Voyager Deck, The Magician symbolizes the law of talent. The universe has given you a multiplicity of talents, as shown in the Magician's hand. You must extract your skills to create what you want to be.
