Full Moon (2/7/12)

Astrologers Isha Lerner and Tara McKinney join forces to offer their complementary interpretations of the New and Full Moon phases each month – Isha from the Western perspective, Tara from the Vedic. Isha’s approach draws upon thirty years in her practice of Western astrology. Tara’s approach employs the ancient Vedic system of 27 “Lunar Mansions” (each 13 1/3 degrees wide) which are oriented primarily around the stars (sidereal), the constellations and our Galactic Center. Please join us every couple of weeks for the latest guidance from the Great Lunar Goddesses of both Western and Eastern traditions.
Full Moon in Leo: Dynamic Play in Action
By Isha Lerner
The light of the Full Moon at 18 degrees Leo casts its glorious luminosity on the Heart Center of Humanity. Leo represents the heart of our galaxy and the ever present light that fuels the passions of the Soul. The warm creative spirit of the Lion, represented by Leo, symbolizes the majestic power of Love offered to each individual during this phase.
The Sun, ruled by Leo, is opposite the Moon at 18 degrees of Aquarius, conjunct Mercury in the Full Moon chart. This Leo-Aquarius polarity deals with the balance between all that is personal (Leo) and all that is impersonal (Aquarius). The energy of the Leo Moon is creative self-expression while the Aquarius Sun rules groups and objectivity. The Leo Moon is proud and intensely individual--not content with simply being just one of the team. The Aquarius Sun, while individualistic as well, values independence and the team. The Full Moon illuminates this conflict.
The Sabian Symbol for the Full Moon is:
A Houseboat Party.
Keynote: The enjoyment of temporary freedom from the rigidly structured social behavior.
I love this symbol and it happens to be my Juno position. Those of us born in 1954 may enjoy this Full Moon symbol as it contacts our Juno, the asteroid representing relationship and marriage. Perhaps this is a splendid time to explore the truest desires of the Heart. Also, for those with Sun, Moon and Ascendant at this position, this is a great week to let down your hair and play.
For everyone, even if Leo is not dominant in your personal chart, seek pleasure. Look to the Moon as a resource for nurturance and let go a little. Explore the charismatic charm of Leo and balance that with the brilliance of bringing out the qualities of the Original You!
The Birth of Intuition Out of the Ocean of Pure Awareness
By Tara McKinney
The Moon comes into if fullness on February 7, 2012, at 1:54 p.m. PST in the latter degrees of Cancer (sidereal) in the Pisces decanate. As is always the case with a Full Moon, the Sun is directly opposing it, in this case, in the latter degrees of Capricorn exactly conjunct Mercury. The Sun/Mercury conjunction here brings the combined qualities of illumination and discernment to the already enhanced, intuitive energies of the Full Moon.
A Cancerian Full Moon is in its own watery, maternal element, which makes it especially full, as if in the process of giving birth to itself out of the great ocean of pure awareness. This notion is supported by Edgar Cayce’s channeled material on the past-life implications of the Moon in Cancer placement:
At least one of your past lives was an intensely emotional one, probably lived during matriarchal, close-knit cultures where the lineage was female and children were much more dependent upon their mother or their maternal relatives. Also, working with nature in producing or growing things, on one hand, or, on the other, helping to bring fruit from the mental forces of groups (classes and masses) of people could bring you, and them, many manifold increases.
Adding an even more overtly mystical dimension to this Full Moon on February 7, is the fact that it happens to fall in the decanate of Pisces, as mentioned above. Below are Edgar Cayce’s prophetic words on this particular Moon placement:
The sidereal Moon in the decanate of Pisces is co-ruled by Neptune and Jupiter. This points to one or more parallel lifetimes in which you were dedicated to spirituality, humanitarian, healing-oriented and spiritual, mystical endeavors. Of likely special interest to you in your present life are mysticism, spirituality and most movements toward Oneness and the mysteries of Life and Nature, including dreams and mystical kinds of music and art.
The Vedic system of astrology adds another dimension to our understanding of this Full Moon in the latter degrees of Cancer, as it happens to fall in the Lunar House known as Ashlesha, associated with the constellation Hydra, the coiled female water snake. Ashlesha represents the kundalini, or serpent fire, coiled at the base of the spine. Its presiding deity is Agi, the serpent of wisdom. Ashlesha combines the energies of Mercury and the Moon and is, therefore, deeply mystical, magnetic, sensual and shamanic, descending into the depths before ascending to the heights of a full and complete rebirth process.
The Sabian Symbol for 25 degrees Cancer echoes this theme:
A Will-full Man is Overshadowed By a Descent of Superior Power
Keynote: The response of spiritual forces to the integration of personality through positive, willful endeavors
We are dealing here with a man who uses his will and positive imagination in facing his life problems. To him comes a pentecostal descent of power. He receives the “mantle of power,” the grace (baraka in Sufi philosophy) or the Providential assistance which can make him a true leader in his culture.
In this symbol, we witness a more transcendent expression of “success.” It is not merely external success (as is given by society to its prima donnas), but a spiritual response, a sign of inner strength and uncommon ENDOWMENT.
Clearly, during the Full Moon phase beginning on February 7, we are being asked to take the plunge into the great ocean of pristine awareness, emerging with dramatically enhanced intuitive abilities on a collective level. If possible, spend some time meditating on or near a large body of water at this time. You may be surprised by the insights and skills you are able to remember and reclaim from our very ancient and glorious past.
