I Ching of the Week: Surrender with a Capital S (8/10/2012)

By Tara Faulkner
I decided to use Inner Sight’s teenChing 2GO web app for this week’s reading in order to access whatever message the I Ching might have for the Inner Child in all of us. The language of teenChing 2GO is always so straightforward and to the point, expressing the wisdom that comes when we don’t make things unnecessarily complicated. This week’s message is about giving something up (like maybe your attachment to being right?) in order to get something even better, like the experience of true peace: within yourself, in relation to someone you really care about, and/or even with someone you’re not all that crazy about who happens to be pushing every button you’ve got.
In the words of the teenChing 2GO:
41. Give it Up
Sometimes you have to give something up to get something even better. So give it up today!
Changing into:
6. Smackdown
Someone will try to smack you down in the near future. Make peace, not war.
So, when you find yourself being challenged to a duel this week, instead of drawing your weapon and taking aim, take a deep breath, walk around the block a few times until you’ve calmed down, then gently wave that white flag of surrender in the direction of the instigator. This is not a sign of weakness on your part. Nor is it an admission of defeat. You’re just working with the energy in a more skillful way, raising it to a higher frequency, refusing to polarize or make the other person into an object. You’re surrendering to your higher self (or the higher manifestation of your Inner Child, perhaps?) rather than to the immature, reactive part of you that wants to indulge in the emotional equivalent of throwing a tantrum.
Now that’s real Surrender, with a capital S.
