Wayne Moody

Wayne is a wizard in the field of Astro*Carto*Graphy®, as well as the creator of potent, astrologically-based, stone talismans. Formally trained as a geologist, Wayne first began combining his love of stones and his fascination with the stars in the early 1980s.

Wayne was born in 1951 with Uranus, that planet signature for innovation, at the highest point of the sky, on the Midheaven, in the Cancer Sign for nurture of new forms, over Champaign, Illinois. His medium, stone, foundation to all physical expression on Earth, he has trained in geological sciences since childhood; in fact, his first home was a long trailer, loaded with rocks for travel emergencies. Early in life, he played in mountainous Bavaria and the German Alps, and later at age ten, he collected coal, iron ore, mica, schist, and shale, stones from the rail yards of Coatesville, a major steel producing town in Pennsylvania. His knowledge was formalized in the early 1970s. As a Geology Major at Dartmouth College, he "touched" thousands of the most interesting and beautiful minerals on Earth. Much later, his scientific orientation was tempered through exposure to the "crystal" culture of Telegraph Avenue, Berkeley, California, resulting in an innovative approach, first expressed in an Earth Harvest column published by Mark Lerner in Welcome To Planet Earth, beginning in February, 1984.

A Process of Revelation:

No less than Dane Rudhyar has said that astrology is a process of revelation. Wayne's life story is a testament to that fact. A series of revelatory experiences trimmed his sails and set him unerringly along certain pathways. The initial event of this series of revelations occurred on May 23, 1984, the day before Wayne's thirty-third birthday, when he met astrologer Jim Lewis for the first time. Jim was not just any astrologer. He was the 1978 Mark Edmund Jones Prize Winner for his work as developer and innovator of relocation astrology in the modern world; Jim developed and promoted Astro*Carto*GraphyŪ. Wayne and Jim met at a church in the Noe Valley neighborhood of San Francisco, where Jim gave a lecture on A*C*GŪ, and later at an Italian Restaurant in the Castro District. Wayne was a novice astrologer at the time, poor in technique. Even so, he grasped one simple, but paramount maxim of astrology: "As Above! So Below!" As one trained to be a geologist, and an active member of the San Francisco Gem and Mineral Society, he set out to demonstrate the "So Below" side of that equation.

Wayne and Jim sat alone in the restaurant at sunset while Jim ate spaghetti. Wayne knew he had only a brief window of opportunity with this great man and was determined to seize the moment. Noticing that Jim wore a battered and worn gold ring on his right, pinky finger, Wayne quickly recognized its significance and in a matter of minutes managed to blurt out all he had to offer Jim on the subject. For the previous three years, Wayne had been taught by a palm reader named Odin to recognize the astrological correspondences of the parts of the hand: where Mars was the thumb; Jupiter the index finger; Saturn the long middle digit; the Sun next to that; and finally Mercury was given to the pinky finger. He quickly explained his realization/revelation that Jim's ring was in fact a talisman, rooted to some important life experience he had had, and that the symbolism of the ring's placement pointed clearly to the area of life being empowered, as well as to his success as an Astro*Carto*GrapherŪ (starmapper), public speaker and thinker; all Mercury correlates.

Jim made no comment, whatsoever, about Wayne's insight. None! He offered no information about his ring that would encourage Wayne's perspective; that would come years later, in a letter written on a Full Moon in the aftermath of an earthquake they had both experienced. Before that moment in the future, however, many things occurred that would shape Wayne and his Earth Harvest ideas. The first of these took place one week after his meeting with Jim: Jim sent Wayne his first A*C*GŪ Map. It was his very own chart. While Wayne was limited in his astrological knowledge, he had long practice in the ways of science, and was diligent in noting the moment he received that first map. Fortunately, because of his habit of noting time, he had accumulated a thorough record of the major turning points in his life these past twenty-five years. He opened that first package from Jim on May 31, 5:22 p.m., 1984, in San Francisco, California; saw the map, and his life's work rolled out miraculously from that moment.

Frozen within the horoscope patterns of that May 31, 1984, sky moment was one that Wayne was initially blind to. His skills reading charts were extremely limited in 1984. It wasn't until some years later, after further development and initiations, in the early 1990s, that the Y-shaped YOD pattern revealed itself to him.

It took a full decade, from 1984 to 1994, before Wayne's skills allowed him to penetrate into that first horoscope mandala sufficiently enough to appreciate the Y-shaped SUN YOD and track his progress as an Astro*Carto*GrapherŪ. By 1994, he had perceived the YOD pattern in the horoscopes of the first-term Clinton Administration Cabinet, many of whose members had horoscopes with strong connections to a telling U.S. YOD pattern. His article "Figure the Yods" was published by Mark Lerner in Welcome To Planet Earth. Seeing the pattern of the YOD was empirical, but "seeing" the importance of the pattern in the "self-realization" of the nation and the American people was revelatory. By the time he wrote "As Above, So Below" about the YOD pattern in the South African flag (spring of 1994), his interpretation of the symbol was decidedly revelatory.

Looking back now, Wayne is able to see and appreciate that his first impressions from May 31, 1984, were revelatory in the sense that they opened his awareness to the A*C*GŪ frontier: a reality previously nonexistent in his science-informed life. That awareness grew over time to a greater sophistication, as his astrological skills grew. The initiatory spark he received through his first A*C*GŪ map set revelations ablaze within him. A further distillation of that May, 1984, moment reveals an almost perfect SUN YOD pattern; a pattern his future actions, creating cards, traveling and writing, would follow like a flag.

Wayne's May 31st, 1984, A*C*GŪ map offers more still to ponder. The many geographic locations that were touched by the A*C*GŪ lines were not yet a "self-realized" part of his experience; that potential within himself, suggested by his birth chart symbolism, was far from being realized. By December, 2005, however, much of it had manifested.

Let us return to the talismanic story connecting Wayne to Jim Lewis and pick up with Jim's letter to Wayne. It was written five years after their first conversation in the Castro and the reception of Wayne's first A*C*GŪ map. Jim and Wayne met up again after the 6.9 Loma Prieta Earthquake that struck the San Francisco Bay Area on October 17, 1989. Jim lived on Frederick Street, while Wayne lived a few blocks over on Haight Street, of the 1960's Haight/Ashbury hippie fame. Wayne was working downtown on the fortieth floor of a new, forty-eight story high-rise at 101 California Street. He had just left work, walked one block and stepped onto an electric bus on Mission Street when the earthquake struck at 5:04 p.m. All of the power went down and the city came suddenly crashing to a halt. Worried about aftershocks, people wandered the streets all night with candles.

Jim and Wayne met briefly sometime between the 17th and the 28th of October and agreed to meet again at a restaurant on Haight Street on Sunday, the 29th of October, 1989, the day of a 6˚Scorpio 11' Full Moon. Feeling confident and buttressed with newly-honed skills and five years of perspective, Wayne pressed Jim once more about his pinky ring. This time Jim was interested, asking questions, and freely giving away details about the ring's origins. He spoke of his travel through the North African Sahara countries as a Tarot reader, told how he arrived in Upper Volta and stayed at the home of a goldsmith named Sci in the capital city of Ouagadougou. Jim described how he hand-fabricated the pinky ring out of Ghana gold and then finished it with an engraving of the Ankh symbol, donning it under an Annular Solar Eclipse at 28˚ Taurus 55', on May 20, 1966. This eclipse was waning off Jim's own n-Uranus position at 27˚ Taurus 18'. Furthermore, Jim was born on the day of a Neptune Direct Station 24˚ Virgo 54', on his North Node 28˚ Virgo 43'; both powerful signatures of his future ties to the mysteries of astrological symbolism.

During their meal, Jim also told Wayne that he had recently been assaulted (gay-bashed) and that during the attack the pinky ring had been crushed and his right pinky finger injured. Despite all this, Jim had somehow managed to keep the talismanic ring on his finger without ever once removing it since June, 1966. Though the attack had nearly forced him to remove the ring – he hadn't.

Before they separated that day, Jim agreed to put his thoughts about the pinky ring in a letter to Wayne. He went home and later that night, after referring to his Africa diary and reliving the details of the creation of his ring, he captured his thoughts in a letter written under that 6˚Scorpio 11' Full Moon (NOTE: There is a Fixed Star at 6˚ Scorpio 57' named Khambalia: a Fortunate Star pointing towards "deep research of any kind, police investigation, espionage and esoteric subjects.")

Please consider that the Ascendant of Wayne's first A*C*GŪ map moment was 4˚Scorpio 39' (near another Fixed Star called Princeps, also Fortunate, and correlated with "the ability to research," plus "a keen, studious and profound mind") and that transiting Saturn was at 9˚ Capricorn 19' that morning applying to the Jupiter HAND of the SUN YOD. Nearby was Uranus at 2˚ Capricorn 21'. Transiting Neptune was simultaneous there at 10˚ Capricorn 0'. This was a potent stellium of direct planets. Jupiter in the sky that day had just turned Stationary Retrograde at 10˚ Cancer 52' opposing the lot of them as well as the YOD's Jupiter HAND. This was the ambiance surrounding Jim as he composed his letter that evening; in it he directly addresses the idea of a talisman:

Dear Wayne,

You have asked me to write to you detailing my reactions to your talismanic ideas, and how they relate to Astro*Carto*GraphyŪ. I am happy to do so.

As you are aware, my personal contribution to contemporary astrology has been to focus attention on its locational aspect. I have done so mostly through making widely available A*C*GŪ maps, and writing, teaching and lecturing about their importance and interpretation. I have come to see the moment of birth as multi-locational – an entity that comes into being at a particular moment has astrologically comprehensible relationships with any place on Earth as a consequence of that birth moment. More than just indicating the condition one might expect when traveling to a location, A*C*GŪ maps show a gridwork on consciousness traced across our planet. A*C*GŪ clients frequently write of being influenced from afar in their personal relationships, business interests and cultural concerns; this effect operates even when the individual has never traveled to the place in question.

I must admit that when you first mentioned to me your ideas, some five years ago, I was skeptical. It seemed far-fetched to consider that materials, rocks, gemstones and other objects would bear with them the astrological signatures of their place of origin.

I have since come to agree, however, that such an effect does seem to exist, and am grateful to you for pointing it out to me. The current fascination with crystals certainly illustrates the power with which people project subconscious content of importance upon such objects, and this being the case, it is logical to assume that A*C*GŪ activations would inform such projections. In addition, I have come to see that the time at which a personal talisman is found also relates astrologically to its place of origin, and the individual for whom it is significant. Please accept my best wishes for your ongoing inquiries; I hope I can continue to be of assistance.

In the same long season of Wayne's breakthrough with Jim Lewis, Wayne was simultaneously touched by Michel Gauquelin's works on angularity, which goes to the very heart of Lewis' A*C*GŪ practice. Such architectural treasures as the Chicago Tribune Tower Building and the Washington Monument led him to a breakthrough in his understanding of Gaugelin's concept of angularity. These magnificent stone structures are steeped in our nation's history and culture; the sheer power of their talismanic-like materiality embodying the best of the American spirit. Their carefully considered parts, gathered together from the distant corners of the Earth, have a quality of character that lends itself to modern, mythological description.

These and other impressive structures of stones "that like to happen together," led Wayne to conceptualize and innovate a new form of talismanic expression: the deliberate, astrologically-informed collecting together of stones gathered from widely divergent Earth sites - under the four angular lines of any planet chosen out of a birth chart. Wayne thought, "Let's innovate, using these ideas about realities and bring all the angular lines together, achieve holistic integration, and see what manifests."

The number four is a Pythagorean number; at once the "fountain of nature," or "key bearer" to "material order." The antiquity and universality of the number four prompted Wayne's innovation of a 4-TERRA ASSEMBLAGE TALISMAN hypothesis. In this hypothesis, like the multiple-faced symbolism of a Hindu deity, one can fully develop, in one being, all four angular faces of any planet's signatures: the personal; the public; the relational and the ancestral/collective. Thus, theoretically, by using A*C*GŪ analysis to connect with active angular (say) Uranus lines through their material expression in stone, Uranus should be experienced and its material order knowable in its fullest and most balanced expression.

The existence of modern metallurgical alloys has informed Wayne's understanding, with the chrome-nickel-steel alloys of the Earth and the synergy they produce, opening his mind to perceive a new world of synergistic relationships based upon stone being brought into simple, but previously impossible, juxtapositions. Humans become mules for stone, making these previously unknown juxtapositions possible. Unique characteristics are harvested not through any chemical, electrical, or heating treatments; rather the union relies upon number (in this case the number four), proximity, and modern insights into the human consciousness field: the "noosphere" of Tielhard de Chardin. If the mixing of the mineral world through normal geological processes can create all those fascinating characteristics humans dream of finding, stumble across, and exploit, then what possibilities exist through a mindful, deliberate, astrological, and metaphysically-directed, innovative assemblage of stone from far-flung origins? A deep pondering of this question led directly to Wayne's creation of the 4-TERRA ASSEMBLAGE TALISMAN system.
